Sabang Beach is the town beach of Baler, the capital of Aurora province on the Pacific coast of Luzon. Surfing in the Philippines is traced back to Baler, where boards left behind after the filming of a war film in the 1970s were picked up by local youngsters. The beach is a long stretch of dark sand facing the Pacific, with beach-break peaks that are usually soft and forgiving, so it is one of the country's main places to learn.

The main season runs from about October to February, when the north-east monsoon (amihan) brings regular swell; typhoons passing offshore can send bigger waves from about August to November. Because the beach faces east, the wind is often onshore, so early mornings with a light land breeze are best. The water is warm, about 25–29 °C. Typhoons can make the sea dangerous and close roads, so check warnings. Rip currents form near the river mouth and on bigger days; Cemento reef and Charlie's Point nearby are for more experienced surfers.
