La Ventana is a small town on the Sea of Cortez coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico, south of La Paz. In winter, the El Norte wind blows down the Sea of Cortez from the north and northeast, often for days at a time, and arrives side-shore along the beach.
The water is warm and clear, with chop and sometimes small wind swell, and the bottom is sandy. Conditions suit intermediate riders and up when the wind is strong, while lighter days are good for learning. The season runs from roughly November to March. There is a laid-back community of riders and several schools, rental centres and camps. The bay can be busy, so keep a safe distance from other riders, and keep an eye on the occasional rocks near the points at each end of the beach.
