Praia do Rosa
Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Brazil
Sports: Surfing
Best time to go: March–September
Praia do Rosa is a bay about 1.5 km long in the municipality of Imbituba, on the southern coast of Santa Catarina, framed by wooded headlands and dunes with a small lagoon behind the beach. It faces east to the open Atlantic and is known for consistent beach-break peaks over sand, with the corners near the headlands offering some shelter on bigger days.
The best season runs from about March to September, when cold fronts bring south and south-east swells and westerly winds blow offshore. Summer is busier and smaller, with north-easterly sea breezes. Small days suit learners in the middle of the beach, while bigger swells create strong rip currents and heavy shorebreak. The bay lies within a protected area for southern right whales, which visit roughly from July to November, so keep your distance and check local rules. The water ranges from about 16 °C in winter to 24 °C in summer: a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter, a 3/2 mm or shorty in summer.
