Prasonisi – Rhodes

Prasonisi is at the southernmost tip of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, where a long sandbar connects a small island to the main island. The sandbar separates two seas, giving two very different riding areas side by side. In summer, the Meltemi, a strong northwesterly to northerly wind, blows across the spot most days.

On the Aegean side, the wind blows side-shore across flat water, which is excellent for learning, freeriding and freestyle. On the Mediterranean side, the same wind creates waves, which suit experienced riders and foil surfers. The bottom is sandy. The spot is remote, about 90 km from Rhodes town, with a few hotels, tavernas and centres nearby. The wind can be very strong in high summer, and gusty near the island. Several centres offer lessons, rental and rescue. The main season runs from June to September.
