Bournemouth – Boscombe

Bournemouth, England (Dorset), United Kingdom

Sports: Surfing, SUP

Best time to go: November–December

Boscombe is part of Bournemouth's long sandy beach on the Dorset coast. The beach faces south into Poole Bay and needs a south-westerly Atlantic swell or a strong Channel windswell to break. Waves are usually small and soft, peeling over sandbars around Boscombe Pier and the groynes, and northerly winds blow offshore.

It is a good place for beginners and longboarders, with surf schools and lifeguards in summer, and the waves are best in autumn and winter. Groynes and the pier piles are hazards when the surf is bigger, and rip currents can form along them. The beach is easy to reach by train and bus and has plenty of facilities.
