Dahab is a small town on the Gulf of Aqaba, on the east coast of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, known for diving and wind sports. The lagoon, south of the town centre, is a shallow, sandy bay protected by a sand spit. The northerly to northeasterly wind blows down the Gulf for much of the year, often steadily, and arrives side-shore across the lagoon.
Inside the lagoon, the water is flat and shallow, which is excellent for learning and freeriding, but foilers need to watch their depth. Outside the lagoon, the open water has chop and stronger wind, with coral reef along parts of the coast, which suits more experienced riders. Coral can damage gear and cause injuries, so follow the advice of the local centres on where to ride. The water is warm and clear. Several centres operate around the lagoon, offering lessons, rental and rescue. The wind can be gusty near the mountains on some days.
