Kalpitiya Lagoon

Sports: Kitesurfing, Wingfoiling, Parawing, SUP
Best time to go: June–July
Kalpitiya is a peninsula on Sri Lanka's northwest coast, with a large, shallow lagoon on its inland side. The main wind season is the southwest monsoon, roughly May to September, when strong, steady wind blows across the lagoon. A lighter second season comes from the north and northeast, roughly December to March.
The lagoon offers flat, shallow water over a sandy bottom, which is excellent for learning and freeriding, though foilers should watch the shallows. On the sea side and around nearby islands, there are waves and more open conditions for experienced riders. The water is warm all year. Several camps and schools operate around the lagoon, often with boat trips to other spots in the area. In the peak of the southwest monsoon, the wind can be strong and gusty at times.
