Lancelin is a small town on the coast of Western Australia, about 125 km north of Perth. In summer, a strong sea breeze from the south and southwest blows most afternoons, the same kind of breeze Perth calls the Fremantle Doctor, making it one of the best-known wind spots in Australia.
The beach has chop and waves, with reefs offshore that break waves for experienced riders. The bottom is sandy near shore, with reef further out, so watch your depth and the reef. The water is cooler than you might expect, especially early in the season. Lancelin is also a base for downwind runs along the coast. There are schools and rental centres in town. The best season runs from about November to March. Watch for sharks and follow local advice.
