Biscarrosse Plage is a small resort on the long, straight coast of the Landes, south of Arcachon. Like the rest of this coast, the beach faces west and picks up nearly every Atlantic swell, which breaks over shifting sandbars in fast, sometimes hollow peaks. Easterly winds blow offshore, often in the mornings, and the best seasons are autumn and spring.
The waves are powerful, and strong rips run between the sandbars, especially on bigger days. In summer the beach has lifeguards and marked swimming zones; outside summer it is quiet, with many empty peaks to the north and south. It suits confident intermediates and advanced surfers when the swell is up.
