Cumbuco is a beach town just west of Fortaleza, in Brazil's northeastern state of Ceará. From about July to January, consistent trade winds blow from the east and southeast, often strong and steady, making it one of the most reliable wind destinations in the world during that season.
The beach has ocean chop and waves, and the bottom is sandy. Nearby lagoons, such as Cauípe, offer flat water that is ideal for learning and freestyle. The water is warm all year. Cumbuco is well set up for wind sports, with many schools, rental centres and accommodation options. It is also a base for downwind trips along the coast. The beach can be busy, so watch out for other riders and swimmers, and check with local schools about the best launch spots.
