Flecheiras is a fishing village in the municipality of Trairi, about 130 kilometres north-west of Fortaleza, between Paracuru and Guajiru. A line of natural reef runs along the shore, so the character of the spot changes with the tide: at low tide shallow, flat water forms behind the reef, while at high tide small waves break over it.
From about July to January the trade winds blow from the east and south-east, side-shore, and are often strong and steady through the afternoon. The water is warm all year. Flat water at low tide suits learning and freestyle, but the reef, rocks and fishing stakes in the water are a hazard, so riders need to know the layout and keep enough depth under the fins. The beach is quieter than Cumbuco or Preá, with a long sandy launch at low tide, and it is often visited on downwind trips along the coast. Watch for fishing boats and nets, and check with local schools on safe areas.
