Lagoa do Cauípe is a freshwater lagoon in the municipality of Caucaia, a short drive from Cumbuco and about an hour from Fortaleza. Its shallow, flat water and the steady east to south-east trade winds make it one of the best-known flat-water kite spots in Brazil: a favourite place to learn, to land the first jumps and for freestyle riders. The season matches the Ceará coast, from about July to January.

There is no tide, but the water level changes through the year: the lagoon is fullest after the rainy season and gets shallower towards the end of the windy season. The lagoon is popular, with schools and beach bars on the shore, so it can be busy at the launch; keep your distance from beginners and from swimmers. Many riders stay in Cumbuco and combine ocean sessions there with flat-water days at Cauípe.
