Domburg is a seaside town on the north-west coast of Walcheren in Zeeland. The beach faces north-west into the North Sea, so waves come from storms and strong winds rather than long-distance swell, and they are usually short-period and small. Rows of wooden groynes hold the sand and help shape peaks. South-easterly and southerly winds blow offshore, and autumn and winter bring the most surf.
It is a good place to learn and practise, with a surf school and facilities by the beach. The groyne posts are a hazard, and strong currents run along the beach, especially near the groynes. The water is cold for much of the year, so a thick wetsuit is needed outside summer.
