Maldives – Pasta Point
Huraa, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives
Sports: Surfing
Best time to go: March–October
Pasta Point is a left-hand reef break on the south-eastern corner of Kanuhuraa, a resort island on the eastern rim of North Malé Atoll, next to the local island of Huraa and a short boat ride from the airport. It is known as one of the most perfect lefts in the Maldives: a long, mechanical wall with several sections, from a faster take-off on the outside to a hollow inside over shallow reef.
The season runs from about March to October, when south and south-east swells from the Indian Ocean reach the atoll; westerly and north-westerly winds blow offshore. Mornings and the shoulder months often bring glassy conditions. Access to the wave is usually limited to guests staying on the island, which keeps the line-up small, so check the current arrangements before planning a trip. It suits intermediate and experienced surfers. Watch for sharp coral at lower tides, currents along the reef edge and boat traffic. The water is warm all year, about 28–30 °C, so a rash vest is enough.
