Best time to go: September–October

Guriú is a small fishing village in the municipality of Camocim in Ceará, at the mouth of the Guriú river a short distance west of Jericoacoara. The river mouth and its shallows give flat water in the same strong east to north-east trade winds that make Jeri famous, from about July to January. It is much quieter than Jeri, which makes it a good place to practise tricks or learn without crowds.

The bottom is sand, with muddier parts near the mangroves along the river. The tide changes the depth and the current a lot, so ask a local school when the spot works best. Guriú is the first stop on the classic downwinder from Jericoacoara towards Tatajuba and Camocim; most riders reach it by buggy along the beach or on that downwinder.
